Corporate Ethics – Ensuring Business Stability
For businesses to reach financial stability, good morale and client satisfaction, corporate ethics must be a guiding policy for all involved.
Have you ever heard of the old saying “with friends like that, who needs enemies”? That is just the case where employees, managers or others working in a business are jeopardizing corporate ethics. Many corporations entrust great confidential, important issues and financial responsibilities to employees that could destroy not only their business, but also their customers. If the employees of a business are not ethical and loyal the results can be devastating.
Corporate ethics has come to the surface over the past several years with many fraudulent transactions. When managers are skimming off the top or conducting unethical actions with shareholders, customers or other employees it is sometimes difficult to detect. Others such as employees may keep quite about what they know for fear of losing their job or worse. In the past it has been so bad that those practicing the criminal or unethical behavior have threatened to hurt the employee if they speak up. Of course there is a “whistle blowers” law for protection, but law enforcement can not with them 24/7. Many of these people have families and fear not only for themselves, but also their families.
The business itself can suffer from the loss of clients/customers, financial issues and risk having to shut down operations when employees lack corporate ethics. Theft is not the only problem or behavior that can risk the businesses stability either. The treatment of clients/customers, their personal information and business dealings can also cause detriment to the business. That is the exact reason that many corporations have been implementing ethics training for all employees. There are many companies and individuals that will work on sight to teach employees and managers how to remain ethical, report violations and not fear in doing so. These topics may seem black or white, but they are often not that easy. There are several different issues that are commonly feared by those blowing the whistle. This person that they are “telling” on may be a family member, friend or boss and that can make the decision that much harder.
Compliance Training – No Room For Second Best
Compliance training covers a variety of areas within different industries. There are many different topics that can be covered in this field, including customized solutions for specific businesses and/or industries that need certain types of compliances met in order to have a productive and effective workplace. Everything from ethics to sexual harassment to OSHA compliance is or can be a part of compliance training, and it is up to your business to decide what is necessary and what isn’t.
Compliance, essentially, is the best practices for any business. This could be in relation to business practices, as well as any of the areas mentioned above. Getting the right compliance training is all about knowing what the business needs in order to not only survive, but to thrive within the industry, as well as to become and/or remain successful. Some companies see this as a hassle or a burden. It’s just one more thing that they have to teach their employees. However, when done properly, it doesn’t have to be that way.
Compliance can be done with all businesses, in all industries, and for all reasons. Whether a financial business needs to be in compliance with SEC guidelines or a manufacturing plant needs to meet OSHA compliance, there is a program to work with anyone and everyone. Finding the right fit is all that matters. Discrimination, harassment, and other similar training programs are all a necessary part of any business, but there are other compliances that will need to be met that are industry specific. To get this training, the business needs to get involved with a company that can provide customized solutions that are created with the needs of the specific business in mind.

What needs to be done is for more people to brush up on their ethics, as they relate to business, to make sure they always operate with a high standard of moral conduct. Business ethics training comes in two forms — one for the employer and one for the employee. For the employer, a good sense of what type of ethics are required as a business owner is needed, because the owner is the one who makes all the final decisions. They need to be a good leader and a representative of somebody who has strong moral and ethical ideology, if they are going to expect the same from their employees.
For the employee, business ethics training is even more important. Especially for somebody who is new on the job. If you start early, and instill a good sense of ethical conduct within your employees, or as an employee cultivate these ethics within yourself, then you can be assured of working in a company that will not fall prey to deceptive practices and fraudulent processes.
